Ben Affleck says he took on Batman role as he hated Daredevil

December 16, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Ben Affleck’s casting as The Dark Knight in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice caused quite the uproar online, with Affleck’s previous superhero outing – the 2003 Daredevil movie from 20th Century Fox – still having left a bad taste in the mouths of many comic book movie fans.

Affleck did of course win over many critics with his performance as Batman, and now in an interview with The New York Times, he has revealed that one of the reasons he agreed to don the cape and cowl was to banish the ghost of Daredevil.

“That’s the movie I want to do,” said Affleck, referring to this year’s DC ensemble. “I want to be a part of that. Part of it was I wanted for once to get one of these movies and do it right – to do a good version. I hate Daredevil so much. It frustrated me. The Netflix show does really cool stuff. I feel like that was there for us to do with that character, and we never kind of got it right. I wanted to do one of those movies and sort of get it right.”

Affleck will next be seen as Batman in November’s Justice League (assuming he doesn’t cameo in Wonder Woman first), while he is also set to start shooting The Batman in the spring ahead of a 2018 release date.
