Benedict Cumberbatch responds to Star Wars: The Force Awakens speculation

December 1, 2014 by Thomas Roach

When the first trailer for the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens was unveiled last week many believed the actor responsible for the voiceover was none other than Benedict Cumberbatch.

Since then there have been plenty of reports suggesting that it is in fact the voice of Andy Serkis; however, there are still those who believe that Cumberbatch is involved in the film somehow, having previously worked with the direct J.J. Abrams on Star Trek Into Darkness, and the fact the actor was seen visiting the set.

Well, Cumberbatch has set us straight on whether he is in Star Wars: The Force Awakens or not, stating that: “I am not the voice of the Star Wars trailer, nor am I the hooded character with the rather cool new lightsaber, so…no. No, no.” The actor was finally asked outright if he was in the film at all to which he responded: “No.”

Could this just be more misdirection or is Cumberbatch genuinely not involved in the film? Let us know your thoughts…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 18th 2015 and sees returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) joined by John Boyega (Attack the Block), Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Domhnall Gleeson (Dredd), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
