Big Hero 6 passes $600 million worldwide; third highest grossing Disney movie of all-time

March 9, 2015 by admin

Baymax may not be fast, but he’s certainly bringing home the big bucks as Big Hero 6 passed a huge milestone over the weekend.

Now that the movie is out in most major territories following a late-2014 release in the US, Disney’s Big Hero 6 has become the studio’s third highest grossing animated movie of all time as it passes the $600 million mark. The film made $19.6 million, most of which came from its second week of release in China.

The Oscar winning animated movie has overtaken Tangled ($591 million) but is unlikely to catch up with the musical behemoth Frozen, which sits at $1.2 billion, or The Lion King ($987.5 million).

From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph comes Big Hero 6, an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada. When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called Big Hero 6.
