Bill Skarsgård wants to explore Pennywise’s back-story in It: Chapter Two

October 12, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The actor behind It’s Pennywise wants chapter two to delve into the evil being’s mind and back-story.

While It was really all about the kids, the group of friends that stood up to the face of evil in attempt to save their town, there is no doubt that Pennywise stole the show. This fact will not likely change for the film’s announced sequel, It: Chapter Two, which will see the friends return to battle Pennywise once more but this time as adults.

The actor behind the evil shape-shifter, Bill Skarsgård, has recently spoken to IGN about his hopes for the sequel, stating that he wants the film to get into the mind of Pennywise and explore the being’s origins.

“The first movie worked so well at what it is trying to do, I think, and ultimately that is the kids’ story, and you sort of fall in love with these kids. And the second one will be the adult story. And I think the right way to do it is to make that movie actively different. I think there might be worth exploring sort of the psychological aspects of horror, but also maybe the sort of cosmological existence of this being. What is he, and where does he come from?”

For those that don’t know, in Stephen King’s book, Pennywise is an almost god like being from what is known as the Macroverse and plays into the larger mythology of King’s connected universe.

Whether any of this will make it into the sequel will remain to be seen.

When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

It sees Andy Muschietti directing Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove) as Pennywise alongside Jaeden Lieberher (St. Vincent), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chosen Jacobs (Cops and Robbers), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Owen Teague (Bloodline), Sophia Lillis (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic).
