Blumhouse and Atomic Monster developing Phasmophobia movie

June 4, 2025 by Matt Rodgers

The incredibly popular online ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia is set to get the big-screen treatment from production house of horrors Blumhouse and Atomic Monster.

Per Deadline’s report the announcement was made at Blumhouse’s first-ever The Business of Fear event in Hollywood.

Released in 2020 by British independent game studio Kinetic Games, Phasmophobia is a solo or multiplayer online game in which players must investigate a series of locations in order to determine what type of spirit is haunting the premises. The profile of poltergeists include entities influenced by Irish, Christian, and Japanese culture, each with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, and paranormal profiles.

Blumhouse will be hoping to harness the popularity of the game’s 23 million in global sales, all in order to match the success of their previous videogame adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s, which grossed $290 million worldwide, and has a sequel on the way this Christmas.

Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster will produce the film alongside Kinetic Games Limited.
