Blumhouse executive debunks Scream reboot rumours

August 21, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Despite on numerous occasions publicly announcing their interest, Blumhouse Productions has shot down the consistent rumours that the studio is planning to reboot the beloved slasher franchise, Scream.

According to Blumhouse executive Ryan Turek, there is no intentions to move forward with a new Scream project after responding to a claim from WeGotThisCovered that the studio is working on a reboot with a “Ha, I wish” caption.

Beginning in 1996, the Scream franchise, created by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, took the familiar horror tropes and cliches from the over-saturated slasher genre at the time and began deconstructing them in hilarious fashion whilst maintaining the horror theme. The original Scream launched three sequels in 1997, 2000, and 2011, and three seasons of a TV series of the same name that is still continuing to this day.

Unfortunately, since the passing of Craven in 2015, the franchise has been up in the air. Maybe one day we could see a revival under Blumhouse, but it wouldn’t feel the same without Craven’s touch or knowledge of the horror he helped come to fruition in the 1980’s.

Would you be interested in seeing a revival of Scream under Blumhouse? Do you think it will ever happen without Craven? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
