Brad Peyton teaming with James Wan to adapt Malignant Man for the big screen

June 14, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Boom! Studios’ sci-fi action series Malignant Man is heading to the big screen, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that Brad Peyton (San Andreas) will direct an adaptation of the graphic novel, which wasco-created by Wan. Both will also serve as producers, working from a script by Zak Olkewicz (Lights Out).

Released in 2011, Malignant Man “focuses on Alex Gates, a patient dying of a terminal disease who is resigned to his fate … until he discovers that his malignant tumor is actually a mysterious alien parasite. Now with some incredible powers and a renewed purpose, Gates is tasked with fighting a secret army lurking behind the veils of society while also peeling back his own secrets.”

Malignant Man was originally envisioned by 20th Century Fox as a directing vehicle for Wan, although he’s got a pretty packed slate, including directing Warner Bros.’ 2018 superhero movie Aquaman, and the upcoming MacGyver TV reboot and Insidious: Chapter 4, both of which he’s set to produce.
