Brenton Thwaites circles Pirates of the Caribbean 5

November 21, 2014 by James Garcia

By this point, we’ve come to expect that every Pirates of the Caribbean movie needs a milquetoast hero at its center, to balance out the quirkiness of Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow. Orlando Bloom fit that mold in the first three films, and was replaced by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire‘s Sam Claflin in the fourth film, and now it looks like The Giver and Maleficent actor Brenton Thwaites is in talks for Pirates 5.

The news comes from TheWrap, who state that Thwaites is circling the role of a British soldier named Henry. No other details are given, but they do affirm that Javier Bardem is in talks to play the villain. Christoph Waltz was in the running for a while, but dropped out to focus on Bond 24 instead.

Directed by Kon-Tiki helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to hit theaters in July 2017.
