Brooklyn Nine-Nine ending with eighth season

February 12, 2021 by Ricky Church

After surviving cancellation on Fox and moving to NBC, Brooklyn Nine-Nine will officially end with its upcoming eighth season.

Production on Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been delayed due to the lockdowns enforced by the worldwide health crisis, pushing the show back from the current television season to the 2021 – 2022 season. When the series returns for its final season, it will do so for a 10-episode run, three episodes shorter than the previous season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was created by Dan Goor and Michael Shur which followed a group of NYPD detectives in Brooklyn’s ninety-ninth precinct. The series stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller.

“I’m so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing us to give these characters and our fans the ending they deserve,” Goor said in a statement on the series’ Twitter account. “When [co-creator] Mike Schur and I first pitched the pilot episode to Andy, he said, ‘I’m in, but I think the only way to tell this story is over exactly 153 episodes,’ which was crazy because that was exactly the number Mike and I had envisioned. I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with this amazing cast and crew for eight seasons. They are not only among the most talented people in the business, they are all good human beings who have become a family. But most of all, I feel lucky that we have had the best fans in the world. Fans who literally saved us from cancellation. Fans who fill us with joy. Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honor the characters, the story and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape.”

Many of the stars and writers for Brooklyn Nine-Nine have shared their own feelings of the series’ ending, including Fumero and Crews.

It has been one of the greatest joys and honor of my life to play Amy. I am so grateful to be able to take a victory lap with our beloved cast and crew. To our amazing fans, we love you. No tears for now, we still have a whole season to shoot! 🚨❤️ https://t.co/WsbCyhr5WC

I'm sad it will end, but happy to have had the chance to be a part of something so special.

This is something I'll probably never be able to say again, but I spent 7 years on one show and it was the best experience of my life. From picking up lunches as an Office PA, to writing for the final season, and everything in between… thank you Brooklyn Nine-Nine. https://t.co/Aa9q6WFAhh

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was my first narrative writing job. I’m grateful to have written on the last two seasons and looking forward to the last season, in which I got to co-wrote the season premiere, to air in the fall. https://t.co/1CmagVzEpa

The awesomeness of getting to go 153/ 153 is only compounded by the joy that my tenure was spent on this show with this cast and crew. I made a few lifelong friends working here. Thanks for the buzz, @djgoor @KenTremendous https://t.co/McwhQUrAwe
