“In every generation, there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer.” And in the case of Hulu’s in-development Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, that legend has been bestowed upon Star Wars: Skeleton Crew‘s Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
Per Deadline’s story, Armstrong will play a new Slayer opposite OG vampire-killer Sarah Michelle Gellar, who will be reprising her iconic role of Buffy Summers in the untitled project.
Academy Award winning Nomadland and Eternals director Chloé Zhao is helming the pilot, which has been written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Poker Face) for 20th Television and Searchlight TV. As well as starring in the pilot, Gellar is also down as an executive producer on the show.
Details of exactly what will be befall Sunnydale are scarce, but Armstrong, who earned strong notices for her Skeleton Crew performance, and headlined 2022’s Firestarter remake, is described as an introverted high-school student. A video of Gellar breaking the news to the new Slayer was posted on Instagram (see below).
