Capcom officially announces live-action Mega Man movie

October 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

If you cast your mind back to summer 2017, you may recall that it was reported that Catfish and Paranormal Activity 3 and 4 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman were in talks to write and direct a live-action Mega Man movie, and now Capcom has officially announced that the Blue Bomber is heading to the big screen.

The Mega Man film will be written and directed by Joost and Schulman, with Masi Oka (Heroes) producing for 20th Century Fox. According to Capcom’s press release, the video game publisher “aims to appeal to a diverse audience, including not only game players but action movie fans as well, with an adaptation that maintains the world of the Mega Man games, while incorporating the grand production and entertainment value that Hollywood movies are known for.”

Since the launch of the original Mega Man on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1987, the franchise has sold over 32 million units and is still going strong, with the newest instalment – Mega Man 11 – released this month. It has also spawned a host of spinoffs across animation and comic books, including the new Mega Man: Fully Charged animated series.
