Charlie Cox confirms that Daredevil: Born Again is “a whole new thing” and “not a season 4”

September 17, 2022 by Gary Collinson

While Netflix’s decision to abruptly cancel the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Punisher left many Marvel fans disappointed, we’ve now seen two of the Marvel Television productions’ big players make their MCU debut proper in Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, with the promise of much more to come.

Cox is set to follow up his Spider-Man: No Way Home cameo with an imminent guest appearance as Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and he’ll join D’Onofrio’s Kingpin in the Hawkeye spinoff Echo before the two take centre stage for the recently announced 18-episode Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again.

The big question surrounding their return at the moment is whether these are the same versions of Daredevil and Kingpin that we’ve seen in the Netflix shows, or ‘variants’ within the main Kevin Feige-approved Earth-616 timeline – a question that Charlie Cox has now seemingly answered in an interview with Extra TV.

“My feeling is, based on the title ‘Born Again,’ I think that the sense is it is a new beginning, it is going to be different, it is going to be totally different,” said Cox. “It is going to be new stories, and new ideas. It is a Season 1, it is not Season 4, so it is a whole new thing. Which I think is the way to go. If you are going to do it again, do it differently.”

It’s not clear at this point if “totally different” means we can expect wholesale changes to Daredevil’s supporting cast, or whether the likes of Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and Elodie Yung (Elektra Natchios) could be in line to reunite with Cox if and when their characters join him in the 616.

Potential Echo appearances aside, it may be some time before we get any further word on the cast for Born Again, as Cox went to reveal that he’s yet to see any scripts and filming isn’t slated to get underway until some point next year. The series meanwhile is slated to air in the Spring of 2024 on Disney+.
