Charlie Cox weighs in on potential Daredevil MCU return: “Be careful what you wish for”

October 22, 2021 by Liam Waddington

When the Disney+ streaming service was initially announced, Netflix, one of Disney’s biggest competitors, decided to cancel their exclusive Marvel shows including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and Daredevil which left fans wondering when they will leave these characters on-screen again. Now, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe opening up many possibilities due to the introduction of the multiverse, the chances of these characters returning as slightly risen.

However, during an interview with The Pop Culture Spotlight on SiriusXM, Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil in all three seasons of Daredevil and the crossover series The Defenders, stated that while the “purely speculative” idea of returning in the MCU was an appealing thought, fans should “be careful what you wish for.”

“If there was an opportunity for me to come back as Daredevil, whatever that would look like, I imagine it would be a reimagining of the character and the show. If they choose me to do it, there are going to be some elements that are of course the same. Or they might choose someone else and reboot it all over again…You’ve got to be careful what you wish for. You come back and it’s not as good or it doesn’t quite work or it’s too much time has passed. It doesn’t quite come together in the same way. You don’t want to taint what you’ve already got. If we never come back, you’ve got these three great seasons and our third season was our best-reviewed. So, the trajectory was up. I am tremendously proud and grateful for what we have.”

While fans are desperate to see Cox return as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen – even to a point where they are speculating that he is included in the first Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, a project he’s been heavily rumoured to appear in – there has still been no official confirmation regarding the future of these characters despite the rights reverting back to Marvel Studios from Netflix.
