Chris Evans isn’t happy about James Dean being brought back through CGI, calls decision “shameful”

November 7, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Chris Evans, star of Avengers: Endgame, says that recreating James Dean in CGI for a new film is “awful” and “shameful”.

This week we heard the bizarre news that the family of acting icon James Dean has given permission to use the deceased legend’s likeness for a new film that will act as the fourth James Dean movie.

Dean died in 1955 and the idea of bringing him back to star in a new movie, Finding Jack, isn’t sitting well with some people, including current Hollywood star Chris Evans. Taking to Twitter, the actor voiced his displeasure:

“I’m sure he’d be thrilled. This is awful. Maybe we can get a computer to paint us a new Picasso. Or write a couple new John Lennon tunes. The complete lack of understanding here is shameful.”

Bringing back deceased actors to star in new movies certainly opens a can of worms, including the fact that actors like Evans will have to compete with iconic movie stars like James Dean for future roles. More importantly, is it right to utilise an actor’s image without their permission, making career choices on their behalf?
