Christian Bale says he will never work with director McG again

December 2, 2014 by Gavin Logan

Next July we’ll be getting a brand new Terminator movie (check out the first poster for Terminator: Genisys here) and it’s fair to say that despite the confirmed return of Arnold Schwarzenegger, there hasn’t been a lot of great things written about it. It could be said that one of the reasons fans have reservations about the upcoming movie – and I’m not even gonna mention the silly title at all – is because of the last instalment, Terminator: Salvation starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington.

Salvation was directed by McG (Charlie’s Angels, This Means War) and left a sour taste in the mouth of many Terminator fans. In an interview with the WSJ Christian Bale – who starred as John Connor in Salvation – was asked about that leaked behind the scene rant and his thoughts on McG…and he didn’t exactly have kind words to say about him.

When asked to confirm whether or not he had seen anyhing in McG’s filmography to suggest whether he had what it took to make Salvation, Bale replied “Right…But he goes ‘Give me a chance, everyone needs to evolve, and I need to turn over a new leaf. And please, you must’ve been in this position before yourself, when someone has taken a leap of faith on you,’— which I have—’please do that for me now; I promise you, I’m ready for it.”

Bale was then asked about his thoughts now having given McG the chance to prove himself, he replied “There’s a lot of room for many approaches and many characters within the film industry. I won’t be working with him again…”

It’s pretty clear that Christian Bale isn’t McG’s biggest fan but he did have some nice words to say, “I wish him very well, okay.”

Christian Bale can next be seen as Moses in Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings alongside Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver and Aaron Paul.
