Christopher Nolan filmed Tenet’s time inversion scenes both forwards and backwards

August 14, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Christopher Nolan, the director of Tenet, apparently shot the film’s time inversion scenes both forwards and backward.

Fans are currently waiting patiently to see Christopher Nolan’s time-bending sci-fi thriller Tenet and the hype for the film is certainly building. WB are doing their part to spread the word as they have included a preview of the film with the Inception re-release.

Luckily, a fan has taken to Twitter to tell us about what the preview entails and there are some exciting pieces of info. Perhaps most interestingly of all was the preview revealing that Nolan shot certain scenes backwards:

“They shot the same scenes twice, once forwards once with the actors doing everything backwards.”

That’s pretty wild and you can read the rest of the reveals from the preview in the tweet below:

#Tenet preview:
-John David Washington listed as “The Protagonist”
-Professional stuntmen said they’ve never done anything like Tenet
-They shot the same scenes twice, once forwards once with the actors doing everything backwards.
-NO green screen
-they did EVERYTHING practically

Considering Nolan is such a cinephile, perhaps its not surprising to learn that there is an absence of green screen in the film and purely practical effects. However, it’s certainly refreshing coming from such a big blockbuster.

Armed with only one word – Tenet – and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real-time. Not time travel. Inversion.

Tenet sees Christopher Nolan directing a cast that includes John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh.
