Christopher Nolan says “it would be an amazing privilege” to direct a James Bond movie

July 22, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Christopher Nolan is often brought up in the conversation of filmmakers to helm a James Bond movie, and he’s well aware of it. But he has a few conditions on what it would take to get him to direct a 007 entry.

Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Nolan dives into how much Bond has inspired him and accepting the job is not an easy decision.

“The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent. It would be an amazing privilege to do one,” Nolan confesses when asked about the spy series. “At the same time, when you take on a character like that, you’re working with a particular set of constraints.”

He adds, “It has to be the right moment in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really burrow into something within the appropriate constraints because you would never want to take on something like that and do it wrong.”

Now, when it comes to actually working on this project, Nolan wants to be sure he can be seen as a creative and not just a filmmaker stepping into the role built by producers.

“You wouldn’t want to take on a film without being fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything — it’s a full package,” he said. “You’d have to be really needed and wanted in terms of bringing the totality of what you bring to a character. Otherwise, I’m very happy to be first in line to see whatever they do.”

With Daniel Craig’s tenure as Bond now over, and EON looking to restart the franchise, could Christopher Nolan be the man for Bond 26? Let us know your thoughts on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

“The IMAX-shot epic thriller thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.”
