The anticipation is high for Christopher Nolan’s next epic The Odyssey, based on the literal epic of the Greek myth hero Odysseus and his long journey home. With the film coming out next summer, Universal and IMAX have announced a six-minute prologue will be released on IMAX screens this weekend.

The prologue will be attached to the 70mm screenings of Sinners and One Battle After Another as they both return to IMAX theatres for a special limited engagement. Following the prologue’s release, the official trailer will be attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash upon its release on December 19th.
The Odyssey has the distinction of being the first film to be fully shot with IMAX cameras. Nolan has used IMAX ever since 2008’s The Dark Knight, progressively using more and more of it and pushing the boundaries of the format with each subsequent film of his. Nolan’s award-winning film Oppenheimer proved to be a huge hit specifically on IMAX screens and he took the ambitious leap to film The Odyssey entirely with the loud and bulky but clear and pristine cameras.
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, chronicling the aftermath of the Trojan War and Odysseus’ long journey home while coming into contact with many mythical Greek gods and creatures. Spider-Man‘s Tom Holland plays Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, as he tries to discover what has happened to his father.
Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
Featuring in the cast of The Odyssey are Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Hamish Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Nick Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Vlamis and Iddo Goldberg.
The Odyssey is set for release on July 17th, 2026.
