Cliff Curtis joins The Walking Dead companion series

December 5, 2014 by Gavin Logan

The Walking Dead companion series is beginning to hot up. The other day we got our first confirmed casting announcement and now we have another name joining the fray, veteran New Zealand actor Cliff Curtis.

Curtis is best known for his roles in Live Free Die Hard, Sunshine and Training Day but has also down a slew of television series over the years including Gang Related which aired on FOX earlier this year.

THR are reporting that Curtis will portray Sean Cabrera – the Rick Grimes version of the show – who is a divorced teacher and is being described as a “good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.” The female lead is currently still up for grabs although Anna Torv (Fringe) was once said to be a front runner for the role but has since dropped out.

The pilot of the as yet untitled companion series has been written by none other than Robert Kirkman, the man behind the original comic books. Kirkman served as producer of Season 1 of The Walking Dead and also co-wrote a number of the episodes. Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy) will co-write the pilot with Kirkman and also serve as show runner.
