Comic Book Review – Street Fighter X G.I. Joe #6

August 3, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Gary Collinson reviews Street Fighter X G.I. Joe #6…

The tournament is over… but the fight has just begun for STREET FIGHTER and G.I. JOE! As the unpredictable force known as Psycho Power grants a World Warrior impossible strength, every G.I. Joe soldier, Cobra agent, martial artist and even M. Bison himself struggles to contain this enemy before he achieves ultimate dominion!

The World Warrior tournament came to an end last issue as Jinx was crowned champion, defeating M. Bison and destroying his Psycho Drive. Unfortunately that had some unforeseen consequences as the Psycho Power was released into the air and infected Rufus – now Psycho Rufus – leaving him hell bent on proving that he’s the world’s greatest martial artist by challenging anyone and everyone.

As if Psycho Rufus isn’t enough trouble, the big guy throws up as a result of his newfound power, sending the likes of Ken, Blanka, Zangief, Major Bludd, Shipwreck and even poor Polly into their own Psycho-induced rage. The rest of the World Warriors, Joes and even Cobra are then forced into teaming up to battle for their very lives, leading to lots of fighting, banter and signature moves as all hell breaks loose.

I’ve been pretty harsh on the previous issues in this crossover, so at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I’m going to tone it down here. I haven’t really enjoyed the series, and this final issue is no exception. On the plus side, we do get to see a lot of our favourite characters in action (even if some of them just seem to pop up from nowhere), and it does wrap up the wafer-thin story fairly well. But in all honesty its an average conclusion to a below-average series. The issue does close with a couple of interesting teases for a sequel, but I can’t see myself returning for Round Two.

Rating: 5/10
