Cowboy Bebop TV series shuts down production following John Cho injury

October 20, 2019 by Gary Collinson

It seems that fans of Cowboy Bebop will face a longer wait for Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved anime series, as Deadline is reporting that production on the show is going on hiatus for up to nine months following an injury sustained by lead actor John Cho.

According to the site, Cho was hurt during a freak on-set accident which occurred on the final take of a routine, well-rehearsed scene, with the actor requiring surgery on his knee which will require between seven to nine months of rehabilitation.

“Our thoughts are with John, and he has our complete support as he recuperates from this injury,” said a spokesperson for Netflix, which apparently ruled out the possibility of recasting and are happy to wait for Cho to return to work in the spring or summer of next year.

Cowboy Bebop is described as a “jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of a ragtag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world … for the right price.”

Cho leads the cast of Cowboy Bebop in the role of Spike Spiegel alongside Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage) as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as Faye Valentine, Alex Hassell (The Boys) as Vicious and Elena Satine (The Gifted) as Julia.
