Damien Chazelle’s Babylon adds Max Minghella, Samara Weaving, Flea and more

June 3, 2021 by Ricky Church

Hot off the heels of Katherine Waterson’s casting, Damien Chazelle’s Babylon has added several more actors to its cast. Joining the upcoming film are Max Minghella (The Handmaid’s Tale), Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), the Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ bassist Flea, Lukas Haas (The Violent Heart), Rory Scovel (Physical), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), P.J. Byrne (Big Little Lies) and Damon Gupton (Black Lightning).

They join a cast that includes Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad), Brad Pitt (Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood), Diego Calva (Unstoppable), Jovan Adepo (The Stand), Li Jun Li (Wu Assassins) and Katherine Waterson (Fantastic Beasts).

Babylon is described as an R-rated period drama and is set during the defining era in Hollywood when the industry turned from silent film to talkies. While exact story and character details are being kept under wraps, THR has reported it will feature a mix of original and historical characters with Minghella playing Irving Thalberg, “the famous producer who was MGM’s head of production in the 1920s and 1930s.”

Paramount acquired the rights to Babylon in 2019 and is targeting a Christmas Day 2022 limited release followed by a wide release on January 6th, 2023.
