Dan Stevens comments on whether other X-Men characters could appear in Legion

April 5, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Dan Stevens, the star of Legion for FX, has commented on if other X-Men characters could make an appearance on the show.

Legion returned to TV screens this week for its second season, having previously impressed critics and audiences with its visually audacious take on the character of David Haller (Professor X’s son).

Speaking on Larry King Now (via ComicBook.com), Stevens said that while there were no plans for David to appear in any future X-Men film, that it is possible for some X-Men characters to feature on Legion:

“That’s a good question,” Stevens said. “That’s probably a question for some execs over at Fox rather than me. There’s definitely scope for that. Again, in the X-Men universe, David Haller is the bastard son of Professor X, Charles Xavier, played by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy in the movies. He’s definitely referred to and referenced throughout the seasons, and there’s every possibility that he might show up.”

While this will be a forever intriguing question and point of speculation, Stevens also commented on the X-Men fanbase, having being asked if he finds them to be rabid:

“They can be, they can be,” he said. “And I think people who know who Legion is and what space he occupies in that universe are very excited that it’s being done because as I say he occupies this very magical, chaotic corner of that universe and he has a multitude of abilities and the landscape of the X-Men universe really shifts when he comes to town. It’s not a guy who just has the ability to make something fly with his hand. It’s a whole world of things, so the possibilities are really endless and weird.”

What do you think? Are you enjoying Legion season 2 so far and would you like Professor X to turn up in the flesh?

“From childhood, David shuffled from one psychiatric institution to the next until, in his early 30s, he met and fell in love with a beautiful and troubled fellow patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). After Syd and David shared a startling encounter, he was forced to confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real. Syd led David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a demanding but nurturing therapist who heads a team of specialists – Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) – each of whom possesses a unique and extraordinary gift. Together, they helped David to recognize and harness his hidden powers. With their support, David finally unlocked a deeply suppressed truth – he had been haunted his entire life by a malicious parasite of unimaginable power. Known as the Shadow King, this malevolent creature appeared in the form of David’s friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), but is actually an ancient being named Amahl Farouk.”

“In an epic showdown, David and his friends battled his demon, ultimately forcing it from David’s body. Unfortunately, Farouk found a new host – Melanie’s husband Oliver Bird (Jemaine Clement) – and escaped. Just when they thought they’d earned a moment of respite, a mysterious orb appeared and took David away to an unknown place. With David and Oliver missing and Farouk on the loose, the team forms an unlikely alliance with their former enemy Clark (Hamish Linklater) and his well-funded government organization, Division III. Meanwhile, Amahl Farouk (Navid Negahban) is on a new path to attaining infinite and world-ending power.”
