Danai Gurira promises a “deeply different” Walking Dead Season 8 premiere

September 18, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Michonne actress Danai Gurira is promising a surprising opening for The Walking Dead’s upcoming 8th season, taking turns even the cast wasn’t expecting. Speaking to EW, the actress promises that fans will have their expectations turned upside down:

“It is a deeply different season premiere – deeply, deeply different and unpredictable… That’s what’s amazing about the writers of the show, is that they don’t tread the same ground. So you can’t be prepared for it. If you thought, ‘Well, I’ve seen this, I’ve seen that, so I can be prepared for what’s coming next’ – no, you can’t. You won’t be prepared… We’ve all been knocked clear off our feet, and there’s just so many ways everybody’s story is expanded and deepened and sharpened. And the clashes that we’re in take turns no one’s going to expect. And at the same time, it remains palpably human, you know?”

The Walking Dead has been criticised in recent years over its uneven pacing, and sometimes needless filler. The above comments seem to address this head-on. Hopefully Season 8 will prove to be the season that puts The Walking Dead back on top. After all, when the show first premiered it was one of the best things on television. Readers of the books know that there are amazing things in store, and that there is ample opportunity for a comeback, so hopefully the show can adapt this material in a more consistently engaging way.
