Daniel Radcliffe responds to rumours he’s Marvel’s new Wolverine

February 15, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has moved to squash speculation that he’s set to take over from Hugh Jackman as Wolverine once the X-Men rights return to Marvel with Disney’s Fox takeover.

The rumours originated from a Wired interview, where Radcliffe responded to the autocomplete query “Is Daniel Radcliffe the new Wolverine?” by stating that “There’s going to be a new Wolverine movie, in which it starts off with Hugh Jackman being put into a hot wash. And then when he comes out, it’s me. So yes, I’m very happy to announce that here.”

Incredibly, some took this as actual confirmation that Radcliffe is set to don the adamantium claws as the new Logan, leading the actor to offer the following clarification to IGN:

“This is what happens when you make jokes. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just start casting yourself in things by just saying them in interviews? So I guess people have been asking something about me and Wolverine, and I made a joke about [playing] Wolverine after being in a hot wash, like I’d been shrunk in a hot wash, and the internet seems to think that I was putting that out there on my dream board cosmic ordering system.”

So, while we can rule Radcliffe out of the running (for the time being, anyway), illustrator Boss Logic has shared a piece of fan art imagining the British actor in the role:

So far, we know nothing about Marvel’s plans for the X-Men and the Fantastic Four properties, although X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has revealed that she expects Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige will be looking to recast the role of Wolverine with a younger actor once the deal is wrapped up.

What do you make of Daniel Radcliffe for Wolverine? He’s about the right height, if nothing else…
