David Harbour and Orlando Bloom join Sony’s Gran Turismo movie

September 18, 2022 by Gary Collinson

David Harbour (Stranger Things) and Orlando Bloom (Carnival Row) have signed on to the cast of Gran Turismo, the upcoming Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions adaptation of the hit racing video game series.

Described as “the ultimate wish-fulfillment tale”, Gran Turismo is being directed by District 9 and Elysium helmer Neill Blomkamp from a script by Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard), with filming to get underway this coming week in Europe.

Based upon a true story, the film will follow a “a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won him a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.”

Archie Madekwe (See) stars in the lead role, with Harbour playing an ex-racecar driver who teaches him to drive, and Bloom as a hungry marketing executive selling the sport of motor racing.

“As one of PlayStation’s longest standing and most beloved franchises, it’s great to be partnering with Columbia Pictures again to bring Gran Turismo to life in an exciting way,” states PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash. “We can’t wait for audiences to see Neill’s vision of this inspiring true story of gamer turned professional race car driver.”

Gran Turismo is slated for a theatrical release on August 11th 2023.
