David Mackenzie, Chris Pine and Ben Foster to reunite for Outlaw King

April 25, 2017 by Gary Collinson

According to Deadline, Netflix is looking to reunite David Mackenzie, director of the Best Picture-nominated Hell or High Water, with his two stars Chris Pine and Ben Foster for Outlaw King, an epic period drama based around the Scottish king Robert the Bruce.

The project has been written by Bash Doran (The Looming Tower) and is set to be Mackenzie’s next film. Chris Pine is finalising a deal to play Robert, the Scottish king and national hero who led his country during the First War of Scottish Independence against England, while Foster is in talks to play James Douglas, a knight, and chief adviser to the king. The site reports that William Wallace will also have a role, and their will be a major love story in the film between Robert the Bruce and his Queen Elizabeth de Burgh.
