Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld urges Fox to hold off on Disney deal

November 9, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Just this week, fans got word that Disney has recently had talks with 20th Century Fox regarding a deal that would give Disney ownership of Fox’s movie and TV studios, as well as the rights to the franchises under 20th Century Fox’s control. Of course, in comic-book speak, that means: the X-Men could be coming back to Marvel! This would also include Deadpool, of course, a franchise that has proved really lucrative for Fox.

While we get all excited at the potential to see Wolverine join The Avengers, there are those that are concerned. Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, for example, recently took to Instagram to share a letter to 21st Century Fox owner Rupert Murdoch, urging him to reconsider:

It’s perfectly understandable that those on team-Deadpool would be very concerned about a Disney take-over. After all, there are big plans for the Deadpool franchise over at Fox, with X-Force already set to follow this summer’s Deadpool 2. If this potential deal goes through, there is no promise (yet) that Disney would be interested in keeping the Deadpool franchise intact and it would seem there is little hope for a Marvel movie that adult-oriented ending up on the big screen under Disney’s umbrella.

In the meantime, do not fear, as we have Deadpool 2 to get excited about.

Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as the film’s villain, and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider), Eddie Marsan (Atomic Blonde) and Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on June 1st 2018.
