Denis Villeneuve is heading back to space for Arthur C. Clarke’s Rendezvous With Rama

December 16, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Denis Villeneuve loves dancing amongst the stars, because once he has finished adapting science-fiction opus Dune for Warner Bros, he’s heading back into space to direct Arthur C. Clarke’s sci-fi novel Rendezvous With Rama.

Rendezvous with Rama is one of the most acclaimed novels in Arthur C. Clarke’s bibliography. It was first published in 1973 and tells the tale of a 50-by-20-kilometre cylindrical alien starship that enters the Solar System in the 2130s. The story is told from the point of view of a group of human explorers who intercept the ship in an attempt to unlock its mysteries. The ‘Rama’ of the title is the alien vessel.

Deadline reports that the rights to the novel were obtained by Morgan Freeman, with Freeman and his partner Lori McCreary’s Revelations Entertainment producing along with Alcon Entertainment, the production company behind Villeneuve’s Prisoners, as well as another of his critically acclaimed sci-fi epics Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
