Are you ready for more Desperate Housewives? Prepare for another trip to the picture-perfect cul-de-sac life in Wisteria Lane. as Deadline reports that a new series is developing at Onyx Collective, written by Natalie Chaidez (The Flight Attendant).
This new take comes from Kerry Washington‘s Simpson Street and 20th Television. Per the outlet, “Chaidez executive produces Wisteria Lane alongside Washington and Pilar Savone via their Simpson Street as well as Stacey Sher (Mrs. America), who is under a first-look deal at 20th TV, through her Shiny Penny.”
Wisteria Lane is described as “a fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery in the vein of Desperate Housewives, set among a group of five very different friends and sometimes frenemies who all live on a picture-perfect cul-de-sac called “Wisteria Lane.” On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream: beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway. But behind those white-picket fences and smiling Insta posts are SECRETS.”
Desperate Housewives creator/executive producer Marc Cherry was not part of the pitch, but reports note that he has since become involved with the project.
Desperate Housewives just celebrated its 20th anniversary last October. The original series starred Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan for the first five seasons. With its camp stylings and soap opera appeal, it became an instant pop culture obsession. It also led to positive reviews and earned seven Emmy Awards throughout its run, including Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Huffman.
