Following its seven Academy Award nominations last week, the superhero blockbuster Black Panther is returning to U.S. theaters this coming Friday, with Disney and Marvel teaming with AMC Theatres for a series of free screenings to mark Black History Month.
“Black Panther is groundbreaking for many reasons, including the rich diversity of voices behind its success,” said Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger. “The story also showcases the power of knowledge to change the world for the better, and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to it.”
“Almost a year ago, movie lovers were transported to Wakanda, and the guest response to Black Panther was unlike anything our industry has seen before,” added AMC president and CEO Adam Aron. “AMC is excited this best-picture nominated film is once again accessible on the big screen at AMC. We are also pleased to play a constructive role in Disney’s generous support of Black History Month.”
The free screenings will take place at 250 AMC Theatres across the United States, with two showings per day between February 1st and February 7th. Head here for tickets.

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.
