Disney+ developing Indiana Jones TV series

November 9, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Should Indiana Jones 5 be the farewell to the fedora we all hope it will be, Disney and Lucasfilm are going to have a lot of thinking to do with regards to what course they chart without its iconic leading man, and it appears that the small-screen might be the answer with the news that Disney is actively looking to develop an Indiana Jones TV show for Disney+.

Variety have learned through various sources that Disney and Lucasfilm are already in active discussions to once again bring Indiana Jones to the world of television, and although those at the top of the castle in The Magic Kingdom have declined to comment, talks are apparently ongoing to explore a number of options to keep the franchise going, which could mean a TV series, new films, other media, or a combination of all possibilities.

The really-rather-good The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles aired on ABC for two seasons between 1992-93, with four specials airing between 1994 and 1996, in which Harrison Ford made a cameo appearance. Sean Patrick Flanery (Powder), Corey Carrier (Bushwhacked), and George Hall played the intrepid archaeologist at various stages of his life.

Harrison Ford’s final outing as Indiana Jones sees Logan‘s James Mangold taking the reins from Steven Spielberg, in a film starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), and Toby Jones (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Indian Jones 5 is due for release on 30th June, 2023.
