Disney launching Goosebumps-style horror book series Disney Chills

June 23, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The dark and iconic world of Disney villains is now moving to the realm of middle-grade books as author Jennifer Brody, under the pen name Vera Strange, will tackle these characters in a series called Disney Chills, with the kids-aimed horror tales coming to bookshelves this coming July.

Speaking to Forbes about using a pseudonym for the books, Brody revealed that she felt using a creepy name would fit the series perfectly:

“We collaborated on the name thinking it’d be really cool to do a creepy pen name for the kids where they could say, ‘Who is Vera Strange?’ And make that feel iconic and creepy,” says Brody. “And we went back and forth on a couple of names. It just seems to work. I kind of like having an alter ego. And it does help to differentiate the series from my other work.”

Disney Chills: Part of Your Nightmare will serve as the first entry into the series, and looks to tackle the world of The Little Mermaid and the evil Ursula. Part of Your Nightmare will release on July 7, 2020 and that first book in the Disney Chills series will be followed by Fiends on the Other Side and then Second Star to the Fright.
