Disney-Pixar’s Incredibles 2 crosses the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office

August 1, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Disney-Pixar’s superhero family sequel Incredibles 2 has lived up to its name at the global box office, with the Brad Bird-directed film crossing the $1 billion mark worldwide this week.

Incredibles 2 is the fourth movie to reach the billion dollar mark this year after fellow Disney releases Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War and Universal’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It’s also the third Pixar movie to reach the milestone after Toy Story 3 and Finding Dory, and – with Frozen and Zootopia – the fifth animated Disney release to join the billion dollar club.

Incredibles 2 is still to open in several markets including Japan, Spain, Italy and Germany, and looks certain to surpass Toy Story 3 ($1.067) in the coming weeks to become the highest-grossing Pixar movie of all time.

In “Incredibles 2,” Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.
