Disney remaking Sister Act

June 3, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Walt Disney Pictures has announced that its set to remake the hit 1992 comedy Sister Act, with Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah (10 Things I Hate About You, Legally Blonde) set to pen the script and Allison Shearmur (Cinderella) producing.

Sister Act was a huge hit upon release, grossing $232 million around the world; the film starred Whoopi Goldberg (who apparently won’t be involved in the remake) as a signer forced to hide out from the mob at a San Francisco convent, and went on to spawn the 1993 sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, as well as a hit stage musical.
