The series follows Mateen as actor Simon Williams who is trying to create a blockbuster acting career in Hollywood by auditioning for a superhero movie before suddenly developing superpowers of his own. Williams also meets Trevor Slattery, Kingsley’s character from Iron Man 3 who pretended to be the Mandarin and later reappeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings where he was kept prisoner by the real Mandarin, Xu Wenwu, Shang-Chi’s father.
Wonder Man was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, both of whom will return for the second season with Cretton serving as showrunner and Guest directing. Both also executive produce the series.
Wonder Man is part of Marvel’s Phase Six, which includes TV series Daredevil: Born Again, which premieres its second season today, the special The Punisher: One Last Kill in May and VisionQuest later this year. The next MCU film will see everyone’s favourite wallcrawler swing back into screens this summer in Spider-Man: Brand New Day followed by the anticipated multiversal adventure Avengers: Doomsday in December.
