Disney’s live-action Lady and the Tramp remake finds its director

March 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last month, Disney announced details of the first wave of original content set to arrive on its upcoming streaming service, which included live-action remakes of two of its animated classics, The Sword in the Stone and Lady and the Tramp.

Well, we now have word on the latter, with THR reporting that Charlie Bean (The LEGO Ninjago Movie) has signed on to direct Lady and the Tramp as a live-action/CG-hybrid from a script by Andrew Bujalski (Support the Girls).

Released in 1955, Lady and the Tramp tells the story of Lady, a pampered cocker spaniel who finds herself homeless after her middle-class owners have a baby. There she meets a streetwise mongrel called Tramp, and the duo embark on a series of adventures as a romance blossoms between the two dogs.

Bean made his feature directorial debut on last year’s The LEGO Ninjago Movie, while his previous animated credits include work on the likes of Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and Tron: Uprising.

In addition to Lady and the Tramp and The Sword in the Stone, Disney’s streaming service is set to premiere the movies Noelle and Magic Camp, as well as Don Quixote, The Paper Magician, Stargirl and 3 Men and a Baby. On the TV front, it will also feature a Marvel and Star Wars TV show, a High School Musical series, and a Monsters, Inc. spinoff series.
