Donald Glover’s Guava Island film to hit Amazon Prime this weekend

April 12, 2019 by Matt Rodgers

Anything Donald Glover does these days is deserving of our attention. The Atlanta, This Is America, and Lion King elect has just screened his new film Guava Island at the Coachella music festival, before the surprise announcement came that it’d be available to stream this weekend on Amazon Prime Video.

Directed by Hiro Murai, who was behind the stunning This Is America music video, as well as being a regular collaborator on Atlanta, little is known about the 54-minute music centric film, aside from the fact it stars Rihanna, Black Panther‘s Letitia Wright, and Nonso Anozie from Game of Thrones.

Shot in Cuba, The Hollywood Reporter described Guava Island as “a mix of animation and live action that primarily provided a platform for Glover to showcase his hit songs Summertime Magic and This is America.”

We can find out for ourselves when the film hits Amazon Prime Video on Saturday (8am UK time, 12.01 Pacific time).
