Emily Blunt in talks for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer

October 20, 2021 by Ricky Church

As Christopher Nolan prepares his next feature film Oppenheimer with Cillian Murphy starring as the nuclear physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, Deadline reports that Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place Part II) has begun talks to join the film alongside Murphy.

Oppenheimer will be a biopic on Oppenheimer and the development of the atomic bomb in World War II. Should she officially get the role, Blunt will portray Oppenheimer’s wife Katherine “Kitty” Vissering Oppenheimer.

The film will be written by Nolan and based on the biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. Oppenheimer will be shot in IMAX, a typical staple of Nolan films, with the film’s logline reading “The IMAX-shot epic thriller thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.”

Murphy and Blunt will reunite after starring together in A Quiet Place Part II while this will mark Murphy’s fourth collaboration with Nolan after starring in Batman Begins, Inception and Dunkirk (sixth if his cameos in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises are included). This will be Blunt’s first time starring in a Nolan film, though she was considered to play Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Dark Knight Rises until the role went to Anne Hathaway.

Oppenheimer will be distributed by Universal, a change after Nolan’s other films have come from Warner Bros. until now, and is set for release July 21, 2023.
