Emily Blunt says the superhero genre has “been exhausted”, comments on Fantastic Four casting rumour

May 15, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Since Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been fan-casting the inevitable appearance of the Fantastic Four with Emily Blunt and her husband John Krasinski seemingly the most popular choices for Sue Storm and Storm’s husband Reed Richards respectively.

Now, in an interview on The Howard Stern Show (via Insider), Blunt has addressed the rumours that she has been approached about a role in Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie as well as providing her thoughts on the superhero genre in general.

“It’s not that it’s beneath me,” Blunt said. “I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow, I was obsessed with Iron Man, I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr. — it would’ve been amazing… but I don’t know if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t. It’s been exhausted. We are inundated — it’s not only all the movies, it’s the endless TV shows as well. It’s not to say that I’d never want to play one, it would just have to be something so cool and like a really cool character, and then I’d be interested.”

Blunt continued to comment on the rumours linking her to Fantastic Four, clarifying that they’re nothing more than “fan-castings”: “No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’”

While Blunt has potentially dashed the hopes of fans hoping to see her and Krasinski joining the MCU as Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic, you can see the couple in the upcoming horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II which is set to debut in theatres on May 28th.
