Exclusive interview with Eye in the Sky director Gavin Hood

April 18, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

With modern warfare thriller Eye in the Sky out now in cinemas [read our reviews here and here], Scott J. Davis sat down with director Gavin Hood to discuss the film.

Eye in the Sky features a stellar cast including Helen Mirren (Woman In Gold), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and the late Alan Rickman (A Little Chaos), and director Hood spoke about how he “auditioned” to get the role on the film as well the decision to change the lead role (played by Mirren) from a male to a female character.

On the gender swap, Hood said: “In the original script the character that Helen Mirren plays was originally a man and I asked Guy Hibbert, the film’s writer)if he felt comfortable with us making a change and he didn’t hesitate for too long once I explained why. My essential reasoning was first of all I could think of no-one better than Helen to play the role… but also the moral and ethical questions that the film raises are questions that should be discussed by men and by women.”

Eye in the Sky is out now in UK and US cinemas.
