Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be submitted as a Drama Series rather than a Limited Series at the 2021 Emmy Awards

April 20, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With the finale of Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier set to debut on the Disney+ streaming service later this week, the studio has announced that the series will be submitted as a Drama Series rather than a Limited Series for this year’s Emmy Awards.

In an interview with IndieWire, executive producer and Marvel Studios VP of Production and Development Nate More confirmed the superhero series will be categorised as a Drama Series and while he didn’t confirm a second season, he stated that there is a possibility for future seasons moving forward.

“…Falcon and Winter Soldier is really about dealing with, to me, the legacy of what a superhero is, through the lens of Captain America and his shield, but ultimately through the lens of all these different characters. And that’s a story I think you can revisit in subsequent seasons because it’s an evergreen story. It’s a conversation.”

The first Disney+ MCU series WandaVision, which debuted earlier this year, was submitted as a Limited Series which seemingly points to future seasons of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier being more likely.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier features a cast that includes MCU veterans Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Daniel Bruhl (Zemo) and Georges St-Pierre (Batroc) alongside new additions Wyatt Russell (Overlord), Carl Lumbly (Doctor Sleep), Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Adepero Oduye (The Big Short), Desmond Chiam (Now Apocalypse), Miki Ishikawa (The Terror: Infamy) and Noah Mills (The Brave).

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier airs on Fridays on Disney+.
