Fast & Furious director Justin Lin set to helm live-action One Punch Man movie

June 14, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Saitama may still be seeking his worthy opponent, but he’s found a director for his Hollywood debut.

A One Punch Man film is coming, with Sony heading production on this live-action adaptation of the hit anime. Now, Deadline reports the film has a director as Justin Lin joins the project. Lin is fresh off exiting Fast X, the tenth Fast & Furious movie, and what would’ve been his sixth in the franchise. He stepped away from the project over creative differences and will now set his sights on bringing One Punch Man to life.

The writers behind hit films like Jumanji: The Next Level and Venom, Scott Rosenberg & Jeff Pinkner, are set to write the live-action film adaptation. Avi Arad and Ari Arad of Arad Productions will produce alongside Lin, who is also working on rewrites for the script since coming on board. Deadline notes that Sony Pictures acquired the film rights from Shueisha and are looking to turn this into a franchise.

One Punch Man is a cult hit, with memes and plenty of fan admiration for the character in recent years. The anime and manga stars Saitama, a superhero who can defeat opponents with a single punch. Since he’s such a powerhouse, he’s always on the hunt for a worthy opponent and takes on any foe in his quest to fight evil. The manga series is a massive success, with worldwide sales totaling more than 30 million copies.

In the great words of One Punch Man himself, “OK.”
