Fast & Furious spinoff movies in the works

November 17, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Universal may be planning “one last trilogy” of Fast & Furious movies beginning with Fast & Furious 8, but it looks like that won’t be the last we see of the franchise, with Vin Diesel revealing to Variety that spinoff movies are in the works.

“We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” states Diesel. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”

“We’re certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now,” adds Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley. “It’s an ensemble cast and there’s room to bring characters in and out.”

Given the box office success of the Fast & Furious movies, it’s little wonder that Universal wants to extend the franchise. As yet, there’s no word as to which which characters the potential spinoffs could focus on, although Dwayne Johnson has previously teased a spinoff movie for his character Hobbs.
