Fifty Shades of Grey downloaded 300,000 times already

February 18, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

While Fifty Shades of Grey has taken a whopping $265 million worldwide since its debut over the weekend, many fans who were unable to get tickets have taken to other means in order to see the film.

Piracy-tracking experts Excipio has reported that the erotic romance has been download nearly 300,000 times across the globe, with 44,896 of those downloads coming from the US, followed swiftly by the UK, which saw over 33,000 downloads as of Sunday evening. All of that despite the “leak” being of poor and illegal quality.

It’s not the first time that a large surge of torrent activity of this kind has occurred, or will it be the last, though despite the activity it doesn’t seem to have harmed the box office of the film’s opening weekend.

The film version of the best-selling novel by E.L. James, stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, and is out now at cinemas nationwide. Read out verdict on the film here and here, and check out our latest podcast below as we discuss the film…
