Flickering Myth visits the Cincinnati Comic Expo!

September 23, 2015 by Jessie Robertson

Jessie Robertson reports from the Cincinnati Comic Expo…

Last weekend, the Queen City (located in scenic Ohio) hosted its annual comic and sci-fi expo and the crowd was huge! I got to visit over the weekend and take in the sights, sounds and Stormtroopers all around us. It’s a great time to be in Cincinnati, the Bengals are 2-0, the political scene is heating up and there was plenty of grilled cheese donuts and spaghetti with chili dumped on top of it, so what could be better than adding in some celebrities from the 80’s and plenty of cosplay!

Among the celebrities attending this year were Robin Lord Taylor from Gotham, as well as Samwise Gamgee himself, Sean Astin and star of the Police Academy movies, Steve Guttenberg.

But the big draws, with lines stretched across the convention floor were Batman and Robin themselves, Adam West and Burt Ward. Holy Bat-Cash-Cow, they also brought their vehicles!

Like every Con, not only am I checking out the cool booths, I’m also on the lookout for cool, new items from creative people out there; this year was no exception.

If you’re closet is full of long boxes of old issues and you want to downgrade or just save certain issues in a cool collectible box, check these out:

I dug the Batman box the most; if you need any check them out here:www.facebook.com/BoxesinAction

I’m becoming a fan of buying artwork at the Con, whether it’s from a noted comic book artist or some freelance stuff; check out these cool splatter portraits:

And what about indy comic artists and writers? There’s a stockpile waiting at every corner to show off their wares –  I’ve seen good and bad; but this year, these guys caught my eye, I loved the artwork, so dark, such stark stuff:

And, now even YouTube shows are becoming a big deal with comic/ sci-fi fans; I saw several booths dedicated to these shows alone: here’s one I actually recognized:

Check it out here:

I also got to visit my local comic book shop, Queen City Comics – where I picked up classic Spidey Story (in the black suit nonetheless) Death of Jean DeWolff- recommended: www.queencitycomics.com

And what would a con be without Cosplay?!

Cincinnati Comic Expo may not be on par with the big leagues, but they make up for it in energy! They have so many cool people, and neat things you’ve never seen before in nerd culture and I love going each and every year. So if you’re in the area, check it out when it rolls around in late September. This year, they even had some Con-Exclusives of their own – as in a never before made Black Series Figure:

(Don’t Worry He’s Got 15 Points of Articulation!)

Visit Jessie Robertson as he plays vintage video games and WRITES ALL THE THINGS- FOR YOU!
