Fox “remains committed” to Fantastic Four despite poor reception to the reboot

August 10, 2015 by Gary Collinson

It’s fair to say that 20th Century Fox hasn’t had much success with its attempt to reboot the Fantastic Four franchise, with the Josh Trank-directed film opening to some of the worst reviews for a comic book movie, as well as a feeble opening weekend of just $60.3 million worldwide.

The disasterous reception to Fantastic Four has naturally led to speculation that Fox will pull the plug on this iteration of Marvel’s First Family, with rumours even suggesting that the already announced Fantastic Four 2 will be replaced by a Deadpool sequel.

Well, it seems that Fox isn’t quite ready to pull the plug – at least, not publicly – with the studio’s chief of domestic distribution Chris Aronson telling THR that: “While we’re disappointed, we remain committed to these characters and we have a lot to look forward to in our Marvel universe.”

Do you think Fox can salvage anything from the Fantastic Four franchise? How would you move forward? Let us know in the comments below…

Fantastic Four sees Josh Trank (Chronicle) directing a cast that includes Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Jamie Bell (Nymphomaniac) as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Doctor Doom, Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards) as Dr. Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk) as Harvey Elder/Mole Man. Listen to the Flickering Myth Podcast review of the movie using the player below:
