Last week it was announced that Freeform has added a second Marvel series to its slate, with New Warriors joining Cloak & Dagger, and it seems the cable network is keen to use the half-hour comedy series as a launch-pad for potential solo series, similar to what Netflix has done with The Defenders.
“The characters they’ve chosen [for New Warriors] are all really singular and could each carry the show that they’re on,” Freeform’s executive vice president of programming and development Karey Burke in an interview with THR (via Dark Horizons). “They’re bound together as a band of underdogs for as long as we choose with this show but it’s conceptually tailor-made for spinoffs.”
Apart from the fan-favourite Squirrel Girl, we’re yet to learn which characters will make up the New Warriors, but let us know who you’d like to see as part of the team in the comments below…
