Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees returns in Sweet Revenge trailer

July 26, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Okay, so it’s not a full blown feature film, but having been absent from the screen for more than a decade and a half, the iconic masked killer Jason Voorhees is set to make his return as part of the new Jason Universe relaunch of the Friday the 13th franchise in the short film Sweet Revenge, and the first trailer has made its way online following its debut today at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Having finally untangled the complex web of rights that has kept the classic horror franchise on ice (or chained underwater) since the Platinum Dunes reboot, Horror Inc’s new ‘Jason Universe’ is currently prepping its A24 prequel series Crystal Lake, but is also celebrating the 45th anniversary of the franchise with the “bloody short-form vignette” Sweet Revenge. from director Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn).

“I am so grateful that the team at Horror, Inc. saw something in Sweet Revenge and wanted it as a part of the Jason Voorhees story,” said director Nelson, who also unveiled the trailer for his remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night on Saturday at the convention. “And to think 30 years ago I was trying to secretly watch these movies on VHS when no one was looking. To have the opportunity to write and direct one of these stories is surreal – not to mention having an amazing team led by Chad Villella and Brianna Lee Johnson help me bring it to life! Not only is the vignette a new take on the beloved IP, it is a comforting, gory hug, reminding us why we fell in love with these movies. Much gruesome fun awaits you!”
