Gabriel Luna shares first on-set photo from HBO’s The Last of Us series, teasing pivotal moment

July 3, 2021 by EJ Moreno

The Last of Us series for HBO has officially begun filming. Will fans of the game be prepared to see some of the most iconic brought to live-action?

In this first tease from the set of The Last of Us, it seems like the hard-hitting moments are already underway. Actor Gabriel Luna shared an on-set photo of Pedro Pascal and Nico Parker in what can only be described in a spoiler-free way as a pivotal moment.

Pedro Pascal will star in the series as one of the game’s main characters Joel, while Parker plays his daughter Sarah and Luna stars as his brother Tommy. The only one missing is the young Game of Thrones stand-out Bella Ramsey, who will star as another of the main characters from the game Ellie.

“Already love these folks. #MillerTime #thelastofus,” Luna wrote on Instagram.

The Last of Us is “set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed and centres on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle the 14-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

The series is being directed by Jasmila Žbanić, Ali Abbasi, and Kantemir Balagov from a script by Craig Mazin, the creator of HBO’s acclaimed limited series Chernobyl, and Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director of the game series.
